This is the story of Siegfried Kessler who returned to Jena from a POW camp in 1948 to work in VEB Carl Zeiss Jena until his manager was arrested and killed in an East German prison in 1953. He then fled to Oberkochen and progressed to the point that he was sent to take over the management of the newly reacquired US subsidiary, Carl ZEiss, Inc. and would serve as President of that firm for more than 20 years.
