Dr. August Nagel was a major player in the photographic world from the early 1900’s until the outbreak of the Second World War. He was the force behind the firms of Contessa and Contessa Nettel prior to the merger into Zeiss Ikon in 1926. He left Zeiss Ikon in 1928 to return as the proprietor of his own Nagelworks which he sold to Kodak but remained as the director of the firm.
